Cornhole boards and disc-golf courses, beach chairs and hammocks, coffee bars and fire pits, and play areas for kids and dogs? These are not items typically associated with traditional brick-and-mortar breweries. But amid the seemingly endless boom of the microbrew concept both nationally and on the Grand Strand, they are likely the breweries of the future.
And the future is finally here on the local beer scene, where two new breweries are tapping into the once-underserved Grand Strand and going ahead with plans to open despite the challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic.

There’s something about the fall season that brings beer drinking to a whole new level.

The brewhouse opened its doors in the Market Common on June 8 but with only a limited menu and coffee brews from their partner “Roasted bean.” The co-founder of the company Dara Liberatore-Sawczuk says it was due to safety and beer licensing. She says even during a pandemic people like to drink and she wasn’t going to stop the virus from allowing them to open.

My first visit to Tidal Creek Brewhouse was not for beer – it was for breakfast. The new restaurant is directly behind The Market Common office building on Johnson Ave with plenty of parking and outdoor space. The porch is beautiful, with a window to order breakfast so you don’t even need to walk inside. I imagine this is a fun spot for beers and appetizers. Everything about the outdoor space – the woodwork, the exterior, the socially-distant seating – is really clean, pretty, and comfortable. I loved the vibe. It could not have been more perfect for a breakfast with kids.
