Brewery looking to open in The Market Common

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A local Myrtle Beach man is looking to brew up a new business in the Market Common. Michael Grossman is hoping to put a brewery in a former vending machine business on Knowles Street. This would be the very first location for Tidal Creek Brewhouse.

“It’s going to bring a lot of excitement,” said Grossman. “It certainly would be a groundbreaker and could attract others like it here.”

“It’s not just about having a place for people to get out and have a beer, there’s a little more craft involved,” said Planning Director Carol Coleman. “There is pride and other things that people like the idea of going to taste something made on site.”

Those working to bring the Tidal Creek Brewhouse to the area say they’ll include game nights with bingo and trivia, nonprofit events, and even yoga and workout boot camps. The brewery would have both a brewery and taproom, but to have both in one warehouse space, that means zoning changes are needed.

“The Light Manufacturing zoning allows for our brewery, but not for the taproom component, it’s sketchy in the wording. It’s not really there for having a kitchen,” Grossman said.

While the planning commission seemed optimistic about the brewhouse during Tuesday’s meeting, it will still need to go to a vote.

“Residents get home from work they want to have that place to relax, have a cold beer or a glass of cider have something small to eat play some cornhole have a night of team trivia that’s the kind of concept this is and lets people see a production facility,” said Grossman.”

Tidal Creek Brewhouse is already leasing the former vending machine warehouse on Knowles Street. Grossman says if and when the planning commission approves this zoning change, they’ll begin working in the building.
